8 killed, 5 seriously injured as truck collides head-on with van in Maharashtra’s Nanded

Nanded: At least eight people were killed and five others seriously injured after a truck and a passenger Tata Magic van collided head-on near Sitakhandi Ghat on the Nanded–Bhokar highway in Maharashtra’s Nanded district on Thursday evening. The accident occurred at around 7 pm near Sitakhandi. Initial reports put the death toll at five and later six, but the toll rose to eight after two more injured persons succumbed to their injuries.

According to media reports, the Tata Magic van was travelling from Nanded towards Bhokar, while the truck was coming from the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided near Sitakhandi in a high-impact crash, leaving the van badly damaged.

Soon after the accident, a large number of local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue injured passengers trapped inside the wrecked van.

The deceased initially identified include Pandurang Waghmare, Laxmi Bai Waghmare, Syed Altamash, Sheikh Firoz and Balwan Pawar.

According to reports, four of the deceased were residents of Bhokar, while Balwan Pawar was from Potatanda village in the Himayatnagar taluk.

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
