Karwar: Like every year, the Karnataka state government this year to has decided to impose a 61-day ban on fishing activities from June 1 to July 31 in the coast of Uttara Kannada district to facilitate breeding of fish during monsoon season, a release said here.
Mechanised boats and traditional boats fitted with inboard or outboard engines of less than 10HP can carry fishing activities during the period.
According to the release, violation of the law will attract penalty on the basis of Karnataka Sea Fishing Act, which came into force in 1986. Also, they will lose their eligibility to obtain free diesel for the period of one year and will not be having tax refunds.
