Karwar: Rural Police have arrested two people who were illegally carrying 187 gelatin sticks and 100 detonators on a two-wheeler at Ganesh Nagar in Shirwad on outskirts of Karwar on Sunday night.

The arrested were identified as Ramesh Punha (36) of Rajiv Nagar in Kadra and Naresh Kolkar (21) of Gore near Kadra. The two work as electricians.

The duo were carrying a bag full of gelatin sticks and detonators on their Honda Activa bike and were on their way to Shirwad railway station.

Based on a tip-off, a team of police led by PSI Revana Siddappa Jirankalgi conducted a raid, seized the explosives and arrested them.

However, information on why and where were they carrying the explosives is yet to be known.

Rural Police have registered a case.
