Kumta: One person was killed, while seven others were injured after the car they were travelling in met with a horrific collision with a Bolero pickup, on Holegadde NH66, Kumta on 27th April, Thursday.

The accident took place when the Omni car was on the way towards Kumta from Honnavar, while Bolero pickup was moving in the opposite direction. 

The deceased has been identified as Umesh Naik (30), a resident of Honnavar, who was driving the car. He received grievous injuries and was being taken to Manipal, but sadly,  succumbed to his injuries on the way. While others who were injured are identified as Hema Shivmukri, Gange Dev Mukri, Sumana Vinayak Naik, Nagveni Satish Naik, Latha Huliyappa Mukri, Vanita Patgar and Saroja Naik, all of whom are residents of Honnavar.  The injured were taken to Manipal.

The impact of collision was so horrific that the Omni car was seen completely damaged at the front, while Bolero pickup had toppled on the highway. Traffic breakdown due to the accident was also seen, after which  police personnel rushed to the spot and were successful in clearing it. 

In this regard, a case has been registered in Kumta police station and further investigations are being carried on.
