Bhatkal: A 20-year-old youth was killed while four of his friends were injured after the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned near Masjid Suhiab Rumi, Muglihonda NH 66 in Bhatkal around 1:45 am on Friday mid night. Five youngsters, all students of Anjuman Engineering College, Bhatkal, were returning home from neighbouring village Shiroor.
It is said that the car hit the divider of the road and jumped over before it got flipped.
The deceased, Mohammed Unais S/o Amjed Khateeb, was at the wheel. The injured are Furqan S/o Mohammed Ali Basha Gangawali, Suhail S/o Siraj Goliwale, Syed Ismail S/o Syed Ibrahim Lanka and Abdul Rehman S/o Abdul Basith Akrami. The first two injured have been shifted to Mangalore private hospital after initial treatment at Bhatkal Govt hospital while the other two were allowed to go home after being administered first aid.
It is said that the car spun out of control near Muglihonda. “It hit the median, flipped and jumped out side the highway,” said one of the injured.
People passing on the highway noticed the incident and sent a message on WhatsApp, through which hundreds of people from Bhatkal town rushed to spot and shifted all five victims to the Bhatkal Govt. Hospital. Unais had dead on the spot while two others who were lying on the road were seriously injured. Remaining two youth were safe who were inside the car.
The body of the Umais was handed over to the family members after conducting post mortem at Bhatkal Govt. Hospital.
