‘Construct water bowls to facilitate animals, birds’

Mundagod: MLA Shivaram Hebbar has directed the Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) in the district to take measures for the construction of water bowls for animals and birds under the limits of every gram panchayat. The Forest Department officials must rejuvenate the ponds in the forest limits and fill water, he added.

He noted this while speaking during a progress review meeting held at Taluk Panchayat auditorium in the town on Thursday.

He said, toilet construction works should be started in Mainalli and Katur High Schools. There is no rule that the panchayats cannot build toilets in the schools, however, the PDOs are lagging behind to take up works in this regard, he added.

So far, the town has received 63% rainfall. With the up and downs in the rainfall, most of the farmers are preferring the cultivation of maize more than paddy. Based on the demands of farmers, sowing seeds are being distributed, said Agriculture Officer M S Kulkarni.

Dr Padmapriya brought it to the notice of the MLA that there is a lack of four doctors, three staff nurses and group-B workers in the taluk hospital and there is a need for medical staff in primary health centres too. Necessary measures have been taken for the prevention of microbial diseases and there is no shortage of medicines, she added.

Meanwhile, taluk panchayat member Hasansab Dundhashi said that there is only one staff at the Primary Health Centre in Nandigatta, who performs both cleaning works and provide medicines.

One Dr Sanjeev Galgali informed that there are two doctors in the Government Ayurveda Hospital and four staff have been appointed for massaging purpose. With the appointment of Panchakarma doctor, most of the patients are being felicitated, he added.

Horticulture Department Senior Assistant Director Nagarjun Gouda said that the department concerned has received fewer funds than the previous year under the Drip Irrigation Scheme.

Forest encroachment has become a political drama. Neither BJP nor coalition partners are lagging behind in saying lies regarding the forest encroachment issue, said Hebbar.
